World Cares Center Hosts 9/11 Traveling Mural to Honor and Support Those Impacted by Disaster

Participants to add personal artistic touches to broad canvas outside the Intrepid Museum on 25th Anniversary of 9/11

NEW YORK CITY, NY, UNITED STATES, September 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- World Cares Center (WCC), a nonprofit founded amidst the 9/11/2001 response, is hosting a Hope, Love, & Courage for 9/11 Mural Project in partnership with 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps to support those impacted by disaster and for anyone who just wants to pay respect. The traveling mural will be positioned outside Pier 86 at the Intrepid Museum in Manhattan on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 from 8 am through 8 pm. People can add their artistic touches to the canvas using provided paints and markers, making it a great free event for both adults and kids.

The mural will depict images of hope, love and courage mixed with 9/11 reflections.

The mural will travel to three other locations around New York including Port Authority Bus Terminal (South Terminal) on September 10, and Center Moriches Free Public Library on Long Island on September 12. Participation is welcome for artists and non-artists alike. Volunteers who want to assist can register for a shift to help by contacting implementation@worldcares.org.

The Mural Project is part of WCC’s Hope, Love & Courage initiative originally developed after 9/11 to help responders, families and survivors process their grief through nonverbal expression. It has since evolved into an international resiliency program serving communities devasted by disaster.

“The Mural Project continues the legacy of Hope, Love & Courage 25 years later,” said World Cares Center Founder Lisa Orloff. “It remains a cornerstone of that mission, providing families with tools to express, connect and heal in times of crisis.”

Hope, Love & Courage integrates healing arts workshops with a resiliency curriculum designed to support children, families, and other vulnerable groups experiencing trauma, displacement, or chronic stress. The holistic, non-clinical approach uses art, music and creative expression to foster self-reflection, provide emotional release when words fall short, and deepen interpersonal and community connections.

World Cares Center builds resilient communities by preparing volunteers from at-risk and underserved areas to respond safely and effectively in times of disaster. Founded in the aftermath of 9/11, WCC has trained and credentialed more than 750,000 Ready Responders and survivors, equipping them with life-saving skills, personal protective equipment, trauma-informed care, and leadership in coordination efforts.
